Gabriele Nothhelfer, Helmut Nothhelfer: Lange Augenblicke: Die fotografischen Bilder von 1970-1992 Helmut and Gabriele Nothhelfer are not only among the most idiosyncratic contemporary German photographers, they are also among the most important. With their artistic determination, great diligence, psychological empathy, sociological plausibility and superb technical skill, they have produced a kind of atlas of the German sentiment and behaviour in the form of photographic black and white portraits. The photographs are taken in one of Germany's hot spots Berlin, first only in West Berlin, later also in the Eastern part, and reflect over twenty years of German history in seemingly unspectacular images of people. A second glance reveals their extraordinary aesthetic value and makes the images unforgettable. (translated from a text by K. Honnef)
