Jem Southam, born in Bristol in 1950, is a Photographer and Professor of Photography at the University of Plymouth. He is renowned for his rural landscape photography of South West England, which documents subtle changes in an environment over time. He often returns to photograph a single location over the course of many months and years.
Southam's work is held in many collections including the British Council; UK Government Art Collection; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam;Tate, UK; and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Southam has published a number of photobooks throughout his career, the most recent being The Harbour, published by RRB Photobooks in 2023.
